DOCTORAL STUDENT FORUM (DSF)

This Doctoral Student Forum (DSF) is one of the important sessions in GCCCE 2024, which provides a platform for outstanding doctoral students to present, discuss and receive feedback from expert panels on their research idea, designs, and results in computer education and related areas. All accepted submissions will be published in the GCCCE 2024 Doctoral Student Forum proceedings.

The DSF consists of three parts: short lecture, presentation and discussion, and private mentoring. The first two parts are open to all registrants of GCCCE 2024, and the third part is only limited to the DSF chairs, invited experts and student authors who have their DSF papers accepted to participate.

  1. Short lecture: Topics that are related to research paper preparation and presentation tips on creating an elevator speech, choosing right journals and preparing high-quality journal papers, etc. would be delivered for students upon availability and time limitation.

  1. Presentation and discussion: Students are required to present their research progress in the DSF and answer questions from the audience. They will then receive immediate feedback and recommendations from the experts.

  1. Private mentoring: At the end, each student will be paired up with an expert according to their common research areas. The paired experts will become the mentors to provide expertise advice. Students will have the opportunity to discuss their research in more detail including the objectives, contributions, potential changes and improvements, selections of publication, and even their career planning with their mentors in the one-to-one private mentoring sessions.

The DSF also encourages and looks forward to further collaborations between the students and mentors on follow-up research to publish papers or other forms of dissemination, so that their relationship can be continued for years!

This year, the topics of the DSF are listed as follows:

  • Learning Sciences & Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning

  • Mobile, Ubiquitous & Contextual Learning

  • Joyful Learning, Educational Games & Digital Toys

  • Technology in Higher Education & Adult Learning, and Teachers’ Professional Development

  • Technology-Enhanced Language and Humanities Learning

  • Artificial Intelligence in Education & Smart Learning Environments

  • Learning Analytics & Assessments

  • STEM & Maker Education

  • Educational Technology: Innovations, Policies & Practice

Each student author should only submit the work in which he or she is the principal/main investigator or contributor. The work can be in any stage of a research, such as conceptual idea and plan, theoretical model, development of app/ system/ tool/ instrument development, evaluation/ assessment/ experiment design, data collection, findings and results, discussions and analysis and academic publication preparation. Students should not submit any work that has already been published in other conferences, journals, book chapters, etc.

Depending on the research topic, stage and result of each accepted DSF paper, the student author may be invited to submit an extended and/or a more completed research paper to the other publications, for example, International Journal of Distance Education Technologies (indexed in Elsevier Engineering Index, INSPEC, PsycINFO®, SCOPUS, ESCI) and Bulletin of Technical Committee on Learning Technology (indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index).
